Video Game Reviews of Need For Speed CarbonCustomer Review: A fun arcade racer Summary: 3 StarsNeed for Speed Carbon is a decent racing game for the PS3. The graphics is good but nothing to get overly excited about. The framerate is consistently high, which is great when you are driving at over 120 mph. (I play it in 1080i mode on my LCD TV.) The career mode has some sort of storyline, but it's complicated and I just skipped over the poorly delivered dialogs.
The game is an arcade racer, which means its car handling physics is not very realistic. A number of real-world nameplates are represented, and each does have its own "feel," but the designers and developers made no attempt at making them feel real. (The opposite of this approach is, of course, the venerable Gran Turismo series.) The best thing about an arcade racer like this is the driving is very forgiving. You can corner easily at over 90 mph, something you'll never do in Gran Turismo. You can also turn off car damage and smash into everything and anything -- cop cars, oncoming traffic, etc. -- destroy them yet sustain no damage. Because the framerate is really good, when you use the bumper or dash view and drive above 120 mph on an HDTV, you can really feel the rush.
The career mode has you race to win over territories. You must place no. 1 in each race to win. After a while, the races do get repetitive, as do the cat-and-mouse chases with the cops. The city in the game, which seems to be modeled after L.A., is not very big, so after half an hour or so you'll have travelled on all its streets and highways. I wish EA had included a more expansive setting.
In short, this is a fun game and makes a great rental. It's too expensive as a purchase, and its limited variety of play makes the purchase a poor value.
Customer Review: THis is a great race game Summary: 5 StarsI like more this title than Gran turismo series. This concept is fun... you can customize your car and run with another guys who can help you. i finished resistance, and this game is more addictive you want to run all the challenge to achieve more things. If you like the race games you must have it.
Customer Review: Best Racer for PS3 to Date Summary: 4 StarsI was a big fan of NFSMW. NFSC is the best racer available for PS3 right now.
Pros: Tons of customization options. Challenging canyon races, go off the edge and the race is over. Tons of unlockables. Drift challenges are new, fun, and very challenging.
Cons: Police pursuits have been made easier than in Most Wanted, and pursuits are no longer mandatory challenges to complete. All races are at night, although, there are seldom changes in weather (ie. rain). Graphics have improved from Most Wanted, but could be better considering it's PS3.
Customer Review: NFS Carbon = Awesome Summary: 4 StarsI loved this game. Easy to learn and play = fun. If you want a racing game, then get it. It's one of those games you can keep playing over and over again.
Customer Review: Just a little too short. Summary: 4 Stars This is probably one of my favorite NFS games I've played so far. Almost everything about this game is awesome. It has great graphics, it's really fun, but the only problem is that it doesen't take too long to beat. The last boss you go against was still hard enough for me to have to restart a few times,(especially in the Canyon Duel) but overall it was fairly easy and short. The overall rating would've been 5 stars if it was longer and just a tad harder. But this is truely an addictive, fast, and fun racing game that should at least be rented or bought from any of you NFS fans.
