Customer Review: I don't understand all the high ratings

I'll keep this short as I know the fanboys are going to thumb down this review anyway. And to be honest, this review is only based on three hours into the game, but based on heuristics, I've already made up my mind. I am bored stiff. I don't mind the long cutscenes as I was expecting it, but the gameplay is so slow. The gunplay is really outdated and the enemy AI is non-existent. Does the rest of the game deviate from this? I assume, rightly or wrongly, that it does not. I know it's a tactical espionage game and I've played 2 of the older metal gear games before, but wow, something about having an oil drum and cardboard box in your inventory just doesn't seem right anymore. That was the same formula used in the first metal gear. They're going for such realism with their overdrawn cutscenes and yet they fail to update their gameplay to match. I've read reviews saying this is the reason for owning a PS3 which imo is furthest from the truth. I would much rather watch this whole game as a movie than play parts of it because they're trying to synthesize two mediums of entertainment and only achieve at disappointing both.

Every level in this game is uniquely created to challenge and stimulate. The cut scenes are nothing short of mini movies. One of the last cut scenes lasted over an hour. What a blast to "play" the movie. MSG4 is basically a well thought out and executed video game/ movie that involves you. There is little to no offensive language (as most first person shooters on the PS3 contain today). And there is this cute little girl name Sunny that is involved throughout the game. At first I didn't know what to make of it but as the game continues, she becomes very helpful. Thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. My wife and kids watch me play almost the entire game and they had a blast watching the story unfold.
