Customer Review: Almost what I wanted

I have been waiting for this for a long time, and I'm happy that the product works as advertised as a MIDI interface between my digital piano and the PS3. Now I can play Billy Joel songs on the keyboard! However, two big things and one little thing keep me from being completely happy with this adapter, though they're not really the adapter's fault.
First, the little thing: It DOES NOT COME WITH A MIDI CONNECTOR CORD. Of course, from buying printers we should all be familiar with the "does not include USB cord" but this is a little different. Not everybody has a music store (sort of) nearby that has the MIDI connector in stock. It would have been nice to include the cord so I could play right out of the box.
Then the big things, that again, aren't the adapter's fault, but keep me from enjoying full use of it. First off, I have a digital piano instead of a synthesizer. Therefore, I don't have a mod wheel or any other way of modifying the tones that come out of the piano. It's a really nice digital piano, but without this modifiying wheel, I can't use the "touch strip" functionality (the keyboard equivalent of the whammy bar) so I'll never get a lot of points for the songs I play, since I can't make use of the long holds. And there is no way to get an external mod wheel--they just don't make them, assuming every synth has one--so I can't even kludge something together. I might be able to hook my iPod touch up to the piano (with an extra piece of equipment that will cost me money, of course) but that's just a guess at this point. So basically, I hope you have a synthesizer and not a regular digital piano.
Second, it looks like all the PRO keys stuff is just done with the right hand, leaving the left to take care of the overdrive and touch strip functions. Full disclosure, I haven't made it to Expert PRO keys yet, so I don't know if there is an expanded range or not. But I was really hoping to learn the song so I could actually play it outside of Rock Band, and most people look kinda silly playing a song with only one hand. I'll have to give it a little more time and practice more of the songs to see if they would work outside the game, but right now I don't know.
The product works just fine--once I had the MIDI connector, it plugged right into the piano and the game recognized the input with no problems, and clipped onto the music stand of the piano so it was easily reachable. The wired USB connection to the PS3 is a little annoying but it's just like the microphone connection--something to live with. Overall, a good product that works as it should, but could really use a few upgrades to live up to its potential. And please, put a touch strip on the adapter itself!
