Customer Review: Cooling system a must-have for 60gb ps3

Most of you have the 40gb or 80gb which doesnt have a problem keeping the system cool but the 60gb which has the ps2 emotion engine that runs hotter than the others (80gb only has ps2 emulator) therefore it is strongly recommended that you have a cooler. My first 60gb overheated after about a week playing about 2hrs a day. The system just seized with my call of duty 3 game still in it. I exchanged for new one minus the game unless i went throught the hassle of shipping to sony and waiting weeks for a reply. At least for all you 60gb owners, put your hand next to the side vents and see if it feels like a hairdryer set on low but hot. Protect your 60gb ps3 as not only is it discontinued but is the only version that has full backward compatability with ps2 games making me the envy of my 40gb and 80gb owning friends. ANYWAYS....the point is you really need an intercooler, just DONT get this NYKO one as it is very loud, doesnt snap on firmly, doesnt shut off unless you hit the front switch and also doesnt allow remote play through the internet as the ps3 system needs to turn on automatically but the fan(unless u keep the fan on all day), cannot be turned on through the internet. Havent tested other fans yet but i write this as i search for one here on Amazon.Customer Review: A fan to overheat your PS3

I bought this product thinking that since my PS3 would be in a console cabinet with good circulation, this would help it to remain cool. In fact I have since removed this product beacuse it was overheating my PS3. Without this "fan" my PS3 runs cooler than ever before. Additionally, with this system installed you have to physically turn on/off the system every time you want to use it. It is a good way to make more noise, heat up that PS3, and waste money.Customer Review: Security

If by any chance you commit (like me) the really big mistake to buy this product, you may better start thinking about buying a headset that let you hear your games. This device it is simply noisy and the worst thing about it is that you can turn off the cooling fans, besides, I write to SCEA about this product and they told me that is not recommended by Sony.Customer Review: Keep your PS3 Cool!

After reading the previous bad reviews, I had to say something. As an Electrical Engineer and someone who does electrical circuit and mechanical design, this is not a bad product. I knew before I even hooked it up that it would add an additional level of noise! It's something that I've learned to tune out and doesn't really bother me. What many don't realize is that heat is a semiconductors worse enemy. Just because the PS3 doesn't warn you, it doesn't mean that an accelerated degradation of the internal components is not taking place. The nice thing about the unit is that I can allow it to run a few minutes after shutting the system down. This prevents the internal temperature from rising due to residue heat once the PS3 is powered down.
