Video Game Reviews of PlayStation 3 Zero Wireless Controller - colors may varyCustomer Review: Great product, a must buy Summary: 5 StarsI would say this is as good as the original or even better playstation controller
Customer Review: Awesome Controller Summary: 5 StarsThis controller is amazing to me. It's larger than the stock PS3 controller and good for people with big hands. It has rumble feature and motion sensing plus lit buttons. It's also cheaper than a PS3 controller. The only thing this controller doesn't have is that it can't turn on your PS3 which that doesn't bother me at all anyways. I haven't touched my original PS3 controller since hooking this one up, it's well worth the price, I would have bought it for $50 if i knew it was this good.
Customer Review: Speaking as someone who usually hates third party controllers... Summary: 4 Stars... I'd have to say that this one isn't bad at all. I had managed to pick up a PS3 a few months before they started bundling them with Dualshock 3 controllers, and the rumble was certainly one of the first things I missed. My brother had picked up a Zero wireless controller as a cheap second controller and I was quite impressed by it's relatively high quality build and rumble feature. By the end of the week I had one of my own and it has served me well since.
Of course, most would want to know how this controller stacks up to Sony's Dualshock 3. First of all, it's slightly bigger than a Dualshock, but not as much as the pictures might suggest. Most of the extra bulk is in the elongated handles and battery pack, and if I had to compare it to any other controller it would either be a trimmed down Dreamcast controller or an Xbox 360 controller with longer handles.
The way the Zero handles wireless is also different from the Dualshock 3 in that it uses infrared as opposed to Bluetooth. This means that the controller needs to be synced to the included dongle in order to work. The connection system and the dongles may pose a problem for those with limited USB port space or a cordless phone near the PS3, but I have had no problems with it and the 30ft operational range is more than enough for my needs.
The battery life is rather good, as I have gotten a full day's worth of gameplay from a single charge and even more if I decide to disable rumble and back lit buttons (select+up). The analog sticks, though somewhat less loose than a Dualshock 3's, are responsive and well calibrated and feature a comfortable rubberized, concave thumb pad. SIXAXIS features have also been included in the controller, and in my experience are comparable to the original. The Zero's sync button also doubles as a PS3 home button with full functionality sans the ability to remotely power up the console (it also lights up a different color depending on which slot the controller is assigned to, which I thought was a nice touch).
I do have some complaints about the controller, however. One is that the D-pad is, in my opinion, not quite as good as the standard Dualshock D-pad. It is perfectly functional and, all things considered, adequately precise, just not as precise as the standard D-pad and the way it feels takes some adjustment. Another point of complaint is the quality of the L1 and R1 buttons which are, again, perfectly functional but somehow feel slightly less well-made compared to everything else on the controller.
Overall, I think the Zero is a sturdy, well-built controller and a good alternative to the Dualshock 3 (even more attractive to the budget minded gamer considering it's almost a quarter of the cost of a Dualshock 3 now). Of course, if you're looking for something that is exactly like the Dualshock 3 then this isn't the controller for you. That said, The Nyko Zero is probably the closest anyone's ever gotten to a perfect third party PS3 controller without violating copyright. If you can afford a Dualshock 3, then buy a Dualshock 3, but if you're bit short on cash and don't mind a different form factor there are very few better alternatives I know of than the Zero.
Customer Review: Better than Default PS3 Controller Summary: 5 Starsuntil someone comes up with a controller for the PS3 with a proper Xbox 360 layout (lets face it, it is simply a better controller all around) this one will have to do. Works well, no issues with detection/connection. Shoulder buttons are a bit odd but you get used to them fast enough. All around a good alternative.
Customer Review: Looks good plays bad! Summary: 3 StarsFirst off I wanna say this controller looks awesome I mean Its just beautiful. I just wish that It worked as good as the Dualshock. The L1 And R1 buttons are not really easy to press when needed to press quickly, and the little usb stick lost connections every five minutes and my controllor just shut off, so now I just use the USB cable, GET A DUALSHOCK!
