Video Game Reviews of Midnight Club: Los AngelesCustomer Review: Grrr! Fun until you wanna punch the developers. Summary: 4 StarsLet me put it to you this way: I've been playing the game for about 40 hours and i am only 15% of the way through in Mission Mode. The races are truly difficult. Many of the missions require you to win 2 or 3 races in a series. I can usually win one race, but nearly impossible to win the 2 or 3 required to complete the mission. Even if i avoid hitting any of the damn cars or trees or buildings, even if i make quick turns without much of a skid/glide, and even if i use all of my nitrous boosts, i usually lose the race. This game should have the option to play at various difficulties. Easy, medium, hard, advanced. But there is only one mode and it appears to be advanced. The developers of the next Midnight Club game, listen to me--MAKE THE GAME BEATABLE! It's a video game. Games are meant to be fun, and if you lose all the time, there's no fun in that.
I still give the game a 4 because as long as you don't get frustrated by hardly ever winning, you have beautiful scenery, realistic cars, a great soundtrack, and fun driving to enjoy. I use the logitech g27 and it makes for a very realistic driving experience. But you will still need to use the controller to do some things in the menu section, like zoom in on the map.
Customer Review: If you are into customization, this game is for you Summary: 4 StarsI decided to give this game a try because I wanted a racing game that would let me customize my car to my liking. I must say I really enjoyed playing this game.
The customization was my favorite part of the game. Once you get a car and you start winning some money from races, you can upgrade the interior/exterior and performance parts in your car. Engine upgrades, exhaust, intake, springs, NOS, etc. For those that like their rides to look nice, you can upgrade things like body kits, rims, headlights, tail-lights, etc. You can even choose what size rims, what color, and what size tires to throw on them. Awesome.
As for the gameplay itself, you have a list of missions you need to complete in order to earn more money, rep points, etc. But if you don't feel like doing the missions, you can also earn money and rep points by participating in red-light races (racing someone from a traffic red-light to a specified destination), highway races (racing from a rolling start after flashing another racer with your high beams), pink-slip races (lose the race, lose your ride!), etc.
The only thing I would say was a little annoying was the markers on the road that showed you where you needed to go. There were plenty of times where I made a wrong turn and didn't hit a marker, which forced me to go back and hit the marker because you can't skip markers in the game. If you miss one, you won't get credited for finishing the race. Also, it was a little difficult doing side missions such as the car deliveries because of my constantly having to look at the GPS while trying not to hit on-coming traffic (there are no markers in those missions). A lot of times I ended up having to pause the game while I was driving just so I could look at the map to make sure I was going in the right direction.
Overall, I found this game to be a lot of fun. It's not perfect and there are definitely some flaws, but there aren't too many "perfect" games out there. If you are a hardcore racing simulator fan, you may want to wait for GT5 to drop. But if you are a racing fan looking for a good time and you are into customizing your ride, I would say give this game a shot.
Customer Review: Lots N Lots of Fun Summary: 5 StarsCan't stop playing this game. My other games are mad because all I do is race. I really like this game, street racing with heavy traffic in your way and extra boost for your car to help you win a tight race. The online play is fun also. You can upload pictures of your cars and have other people rate your best ride. I have to stop playing it, I paused it to write this review and now I have the urge to race again. I say, a must buy if your into street racing and pimping out your ride and buying new rides to trick out and unlocking special cars and I could go on but I have to race...
Customer Review: Midnight Club is Excellent! Summary: 5 StarsThis game is great with the G25. The controlling is way easier to handle. The graphics are great and the also the sound. This is one of the best arcade racing games I played. The body kits are cool to customize your car. If you are a racer you should buy the game! Overall Excellent!
Customer Review: Midnight Club ya' over the head! Summary: 3 StarsMidnight club has always been a fun series. The first time I played it was on the original xbox. Dub edition was fun, and I spent most of my time customizing my ride. Like that version, I found myself spending countless hours choosing the right rims for my ride, paint combos, etc. then once it was all tricked out, and I took pics - which look breathtaking, I'd trade it for another and do it all over again. For me, that's what makes this game stand out. However, the races outside of the easy ones aren't. I cannot tell you how impressed I would be to see someone smoke every other racer on one of the red lit races. This game is just too hard after a point. And the fact that if you make a mistake, you usually lose, is one of the most annoying factors hurting this game. One wrong move and it's all over. Sad. It really is. But still, when it's on, it's freakin' on. You're bookin' down hollywood boulevard, with the sun setting, in a dropped lambo with metallic red paint, 23's and the retractable flaps popping out as you gain speed, is one of the most beautiful racing moments I've ever had. The lighting, the graphic detail of the cars/city, the courses, the music, all come together to create a wonderful experience that few games have provided racing/atmosphere wise. Still, one wrong move and BOOM, it's all over. So my overall consensus of ths game, is akin to my playing style, once you get bored with this model, eventually you trade it in for another model. But man, what a ride!
