Video Game Reviews of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Customer Review: not so gran
Summary: 1 Stars

Having been an avid fan of gran turismo from the beginning, I have been progressively disappointed from the first to the last series of the game. The driving experience and graphics of GT5 are great but the individuality of the vehicles has vanished. On the latest version of GT you are forced into a more narrow racing platform which makes the game just plain boring. If you loved the original GT games, I dont think you will enjoy this version.

Customer Review: Very Pretty Game, but Grid is Better
Summary: 4 Stars

Brand new PS3 and a brand new PC. Gran Turismo bought for the PS3 and Grid for the PC. Which do I prefer to play, Grid. GT5 is an amazingly gorgeous game, the cars are beautiful, the setting between races are beautiful, the driving isn't too bad. Grid isn't as gorgeous, you're pretty much relegated to a garage to see the cars. But where Grid wins, the whole career aspect of racing to win dollars, sponsorship, and the ability to buy more cars (it's not terribly hard to get initial money). And Grid wins with more driving realism. With the right settings, the car does get damaged, tires go off, handling changes. GT5, damage just doesn't happen.

GT5 is more like a really beautiful drive in the country with a loved one nearby. It's almost the Walt Disney or Garrison Kielor (everyone is above average) of auto racing. Sometimes that's a very good thing and you love that. Other times you'd prefer realism.

In the end, Grid and GT5 have very different reasons for existing. And they can both live in your racing game rotation.

Customer Review: Worst. Entry. Ever.
Summary: 2 Stars

Perhaps I have let my expectations get the best of me, but this is a sore disappointment -- and I've owed and played every GT. This game sucks horribly for the price, and would be only a moderate improvement at half that.

The familiar licencing structure was tossed out the window, which immediately confused me; and the pre-ordered (and seriously short) single player 'path' is notoriously narrow-minded. One of the great things about GT is the multiple ways you can play through to your liking -- well, not anymore!

As already noted in other reviews, the AI sucks. But the inability to customize the cars is horrible. They obviously rebalanced the cup winnings so that you can earn new cars faster, but that still doesn't fix my need to customize my cars (some of my favorite cars in GT have been the first couple of seriously tricked out rides).

The online play is lacking a lot of thought, but I can only assume they wanted a test of concept before building in any serious infrastructure. Still, at [...]? Give me some features, please.

For the price point, this game is not worth it. It plays more like a demo than real GT.

Customer Review: Excellent graphics... But...
Summary: 4 Stars

Graphics in this game are excellent.. Very realistic feel of car handling... but, couldn't find a way to customize the car... And, you lose a lot of credits to sell a car... Overall I think GT5 is a winner..

Customer Review: GOOD GAME BUT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER
Summary: 4 Stars

Review: I have mixed feelings on this game.

On one hand the graphics are incredible and some of the tracks are gorgeous with mountains and cliffs that look picture perfect. Each car handles differently and performs just like in real life. There are several different views including one from inside the car that replicates the interior exactly.

On the other hand there are not as many car choices as in some of the previous versions. There is still no damage to your car and that makes the game very unrealistic and arcade like. You can hit a wall doing 150 M.P.H. and no damage. The Gran Turismo franchise claims to be the "True Driving Simulation" but the lack of damage doesn't seem anything like a simulation.

Overall I give it four stars because it is a fun game but has some issues as stated above and it simply doesn't have the makings of a truly great game.
