Video Game Reviews of PlayStation 3 160 GB Uncharted: Drake's Fortune PackCustomer Review: Holy failure batman Summary: 1 StarsOk, first let me start off by describing generalities in Sony's Playstation 3 shortcomings.
The games suck. Yes, a few redeemable ones, but for the most part the only ones worth playing are also available on xbox. The few that aren't available on the Xbox console aren't really so amazing that it's worth the price difference, or skipping the Xbox only titles you will miss out on. Here we are, years after the launch, and there is still nothing noteworthy. Playstation has always been slow on the draw, but this is ridiculously slow.
Lack of Dual Shock in favor of a barely there wii-mote like angle sensitive controller. I don't know what Sony was thinking. Either go all out, or stick with what you know. It doesn't compete with Wii's motion sensitivity, as a matter of fact I can't recall it ever even coming into play in any of the games that graced my console. Being that this new feature is so barely there and lame they should have just made the controller shake. It's like they got rid of a feature for no reason.
Backwards Compatibility. It was great at first, with my PS3. But it's not what they made it out to be. Not all games worked, and after the first few versions of the console were released it all but went out the window. It's sad, because with such a huge lack of entertaining PS3 games it really helped score some much needed points.
The controller. When I was growing up I refused to play Xbox. I hated the controllers. PS 1 PS 2. It's all I ever bought and played specifically because of the controller. Well, I'm older now, a bit weathered. I do have arthritis. These controllers are all but impossible to deal with for extended periods of time with most hand problems.
The WORST BluRay player on the market. I didn't have any issues with mine actually breaking down, the whole console broke down before I had the pleasure. But seriously, this is the worst BluRay player you can get. Yes, it's really sweet Sony looked towards the future instead of betting on HD DVD like Microsoft, but at this point a BluRay player is in the works for XBOX and Sony lost their only actual footing on the competition.
The WORST online gaming of any console. Nobody plays. So, if you actually care enough about one of the few entertaining games Sony has to offer to try and find people online to play with, odds are your SOL. Yes it's free. 8 Day old hotdogs are free at the 7-11 too, doesn't mean I am going to wast my time with them. I don't have to bother listing the hundreds of ways Xbox Live is better and worth the nominal fee.
Now some specifics for what happened with my Sony Playstation 3. About three months after I got it the system started shutting itself off. I'm not a moron. I know how to treat electronics, so before anyone get's on me for leaving it in a closed cupboard, or not venting it properly, etc. etc. your wrong, I did. It simply stopped working. At first it would take a while to shut itself off. It got to the point where I couldn't even turn the system on and get past the opening credits of Iron Man without it just turning itself off. I called Sony, they told me it was an over heating issue and they would send me a new power chord. Wrong. I called again and they wanted 250 bucks to fix it. For 250 bucks I could get a bluray player, and that is pretty much all I used this paper weight for, so I said screw it. And so it sits, and has sat, for over a year. It begs to be mentioned Xbox replaced my system three times with BRAND NEW SYSTEMS. Not refurbished. Not used. BRAND NEW. If your going to design a system with flaws you should be willing to rectify them when they come up, and Sony is horrible at doing that. I'm not going to send Sony even more money because they can't get their act together. Obviously not everyone is going to come to this outcome. And admittedly the newer versions work better, (with less features), but it's not enough. SOny's horrible customer service and zero accountability are too much of a risk to make a serious investment in the system.
The Playstation 3 is without a doubt the most high-tech of the next gen consoles. It no doubt has the potential to be the best of the three, however it's just not. Not with these games. Not with these bugs.
The only majorly redeemable quality I could find was the internet browser. It's not great, but it was cool to be able to surf the web via video game console. however, for 15 bucks you can get an s-video cable and just hook your laptop up to your television.
If there is some game you can't life without that is only on PS3 go for it. But that is about the only reason I can think of that someone would really not be better off with an Xbox. Even that they would still be better off with an Xbox and skipping whatever unimaginable title one couldn't do without.
Oh, on a final note, Sony hardly ever lowers prices in popular titles. Uncharted is still carrying a rather hefty price tag for a game with a sequel already out and one of the first games released no less. Left4Dead has been out less than a year and it's half price. Ridiculous Sony. Ridiculous.
Customer Review: This model sucks. Summary: 1 StarsThe revamped PS3 is much better than this one, and much better to look at as well. This model is unreliable, ugly as hell and ten times to big with the work possible cumbersome design ever. Get the revamped one, it makes you wonder why this glob of garbage even exists.
Customer Review: We Love This Game Console! Summary: 5 StarsPlenty of good games to choose from and one of the best Blue Ray players around!
Customer Review: jawba Summary: 4 StarsNice system. Too bad I paid too much for it. One week after my purchase, the price dropped.
Customer Review: PS3 160 GB Uncharted Summary: 4 StarsPS3 works and looks great. Just need to do some software updating and you are good to go. The game that came with it Uncharted has some bugs keeps locking up. It is not just this one...friend has the same problem with his Uncharted. In case for some people that might not know PS2 games work as well...at least the ones that I have.
