Customer Review: After nearly 2.5 years, still one of the most advanced pieces of general consumer hardware on the market
Summary: 5 Stars

I'll leave the detailed reviews about gameplay to others, there are 700+ more of them to look at. Just realize that the PS3 has capabilities far beyond just video games. This particular model supports Bluray, CD, DVD, SACD playback through its disc drive. It is backward-compatible with all PS1 and PS2 games. You can stream media from your PC. It's wireless internet capable and has an ethernet jack fro wired connection. You can import your songs right into it, or copy over movies, photos, anything you want from a portable drive via USB. You can play/watch/use media from a portable drive via USB. If you want to store all your files right on the machine, you can swap out the stock hard drive and replace it with ANY 2.5" laptop SATA drive on the market. I put a Samsung SpinPoint M60S HM500LI 500GB 2.5" SATA Drive in mine, no issues whatsoever with noise or speed (Sony even encourages owners to do this, it won't void your warranty). It allows me to store all of my music, movies, games, etc. on the drive and still have 100s of gigs to spare. It can access the Playstation Store and Playstation Home, giving me access to even more media; downloadable movies and music including HD content, as well as games & demos. It supports HDMI 1.3a (and it did it almost a year before most consumer A/V products could), and can output video at full 1080p. It also can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA and send it out as high resolution PCM, which is huge since there still aren't many affordable Bluray players that can do this. This means you don't need a receiver that can decode these formats, it just needs to be able to handle PCM and have audio output via HDMI (not all receivers that boast HDMI capability have this, especially the cheaper receivers, they only pass video). This unit has been extremely compatible with my Yamaha RX-V1800, and together they have formed the nerve center of my HT. As far as I'm concerned this is a key component for any next-gen home theater setup, providing web-based access to HD video and audio content right through the TV/Sound system. It's been around for almost 2 1/2 years and it's still cutting edge, which in this day and age is nothing to sneeze at.
For me the gaming is almost secondary, but I've enjoyed the games I purchased, the video and sound are a real treat. Some games I've enjoyed:

The Simpsons Game
Prince of Persia
LittleBigPlanet
MLB 08: The Show
Grand Theft Auto IV
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Madden NFL 09

There are more and more games being released for this platform, including some pretty excellent games exclusive to the PS3. The online gaming is also developing, and I enjoyed playing Madden '08 and Tekken (downloadable from PS Store) online.
If you really want to get nuts, attach a keyboard to this thing, install LINUX and turn it into a full-fledged computer! You could do it if you wanted to...
And that's the beauty of it. The sheer versatility of this product makes it a must for those who can afford it. This really is an integral part of my entertainment system, and it keeps getting better and better. Sony pushes firmware updates online that fix game bugs & add additional functionality as technology changes. I've had this for 2 years and haven't had even the slightest issue. My suggestion is, if you want to buy a gaming system that's far more than just a gaming system, that will still be relevant in 5 years, get the PS3.

Customer Review: Very versitile
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the PS3 to have since its the one that can do the PS1, PS2, and of course PS3. However, the draw back is if you have saves on your ps2 memory card you can kiss them goodbye unless you have an adaptor. In addition, it makes a great media player as well as for the internet browser. If not for the XMB you would think it is a PC running in the background. A great purchase.

Customer Review: So far.....excellent.
Summary: 5 Stars

My PS3 60gb was one of the first batches put out two weeks after release. It has gone through all of the firmware updates without a hitch and remains the hub of my home theater system. Due to it's flexability with blue-ray playback, backwards compatability with PS1 and PS2 games and being hooked into the wireless home network it covers the base of being a lite media server as well. I have only positives to express more than two years later.
