Video Game Reviews of PlayStation 3 60GB

Customer Review: Great system-Terrible Customer Service
Summary: 1 Stars

We're long time Playstation fans and have owned each unit throughout the years. We gladly upgraded to the new PS3 last year and after a little over a year our PS3 died during a firmware update Sony forced our system through. Our system, now out of warranty would cost $170 to be 'repaired' by Sony. I find it unacceptable to charge a consumer to repair a system which broke due to their software upgrades. This is the last time I will ever by a Playstation.

Customer Review: Great with two caveats
Summary: 3 Stars

Got this for my brother last Christmas.

Good:
Cheapest and best Blu-Ray player

Great performance

Free online service

Bad:
Online network is still a joke

Games genres not our preference (prefer xbox360)

Remote will prevent you from a universal remote

Overheats

Player failed after less than a year

Summation:
Get if you are looking for a Blu-Ray player. Casual gamers should get a Wii. Hard-core gamers should get an xbox 360 since most of the best gamers on on xbox live.

Throw out the reliability issue since I've had two PS3s (a 60gb and a 40gb) from Amazon fail in less than a year. My xbox 360 from Amazon is fine (yes same amount usage for all 3).

Customer Review: Not really 5-stars but I love it
Summary: 5 Stars

My friend got a 60 gig on release date and had it up until 2 weeks ago when he found out that his broken PS3 was .03% or something of all PS3s that break due to the yellow light thing. He had to buy the MGS4 pack and drive 45minutes to a college to find one and had to pay $545 since it was one of the better PS3 versions. 60 gigs are supposed to be very dependable. I guess my friend got the short side of the stick. I LOVE U PS3 ILL HAVE YOU SOON! RESISTANCE 2 ROCKS!

Customer Review: PS3/XBOX360 Objective Comparison
Summary: 5 Stars

Reliability:
I own a video game store. One of the services that we provide is various repairs on most game consoles. In the last year, I have performed around 60 individual XBOX 360 repairs compared to 0 (zero) PS3 repairs. PS3 Wins Hands Down

Compatability:
The 60GB version of the PS3 is FULLY backwards compatible with PS2 and most PS 1 games. The new 80GB version has some limited backwards compatability. The 40GB version has no backwards compatability. All versions of the 360 (Arcade, Pro and Elite) have the same limited backwards compatability. At least PS3 has a version that is fully backwards compatable. PS3 WINS

Value:
The new 80GB version of the PS3 retails for $399.00. This includes an 80GB hard drive (obviously), built in Bluetooth, and built in WIFI. Oh and lets not forget that the DVD player in the PS3 will play all of your regular AND Blu-Ray DVDs. The lowest cost 360 is the Arcade version that retails for around $199. This version does not come with a hard drive which will cost you around $100 for 60GB, nor does it have built in WIFI. The WIFI adapter retails for around $100 also. So for $399 you essentially get 20GB less storage...oh and NO BLU RAY!!! PS3 WINS

Game Selection:
Let's say that most games nowadays are released on both PS3 and 360, but there are some titles that are exclusive to each. Some of the hotest exclusive titles are:

PS3 - Metal Gear Solid, SOCOM, Little Big Planet, Resistance 2
360 - Fable II, Gears of War 2 and of course Halo 3

Overall, since the 360 has been around for a few more years, there are more titles available, but some of the most popular like BioShock have been ported over now to the PS3...most of the others will follow suit (except Halo which will probably always be a 360 only title). 360 WINS (but not for very much longer)

So of the 3 main decision points as to which console to purchase. PS3 scored 3 out of 4 to the 360's score of 1 out of 4.

Let me also say that I make more money selling the 360 because of all of the periphery that you have to buy along with it (more margin in accessories) so I hope people continue to go in that direction. However, when viewed objectively, the PS3 is clearly the way to go.

Customer Review: Best media center ever!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I would consider myself a pretty involved techno guy (not the music). I own 2 HD DVD players and this version of the PS3. I love this system for many reasons:

1. It's the best blu-ray player on the market
2. It has a great selection of games
3. No need to buy batteries (rechargeable or otherwise)
4. Is FULLY backwards compatible with all old PS and PS2 games
5. Has a nice, functional internet browser
6. FREE online gaming
7. 4 USB ports
8. Media card expansion slots
9. You can easily upgrade the HDD
10. It constantly upgrades itself (firmware updates)
11. Built-in WiFi
12. Stores music, movies, and photos.

I'm sure there are other things I can add but I'll just stop there. I wouldn't necessarily suggest that someone pay the extra money to pay of this specific version but I would say that it certainly is superior to the others. I kind of took a gamble about a year ago when I bought this system after researching the others (Xbox 360, Wii) and I have to say that my selection is certainly paying dividends. I used to be complete anti-playstation or Sony for that matter (with no really good reason) but no I can proudly say that I'm a believer!!
