Video Game Reviews of PlayStation 3 Wireless Sixaxis Controller

Customer Review: Good but not perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros: Just like older PS controller models if you are used to the shape; excellent battery life; great functionality; sixaxis is fun on some games and my three year old loves it; blue tooth connectivity lets you play at any angle or even from another room if you didn't need to see the tv

Cons: R2 and L2 button slant makes your fingers want to slide off; joysticks could be more durable and have a bit more resistance

I have had my PS3 for about a year to a year and a half and my controllers are starting to wear out. The joystick on the left is wearing out and no longer centers so things drift left. I have a feeling I am a bit too hard on them, I mash the L3 button (lots of Call of Duty you hit it to sprint) and tend to mash really hard when frustrated by my mediocre gaming skills. Anyway, I wish it was tougher but I think if I mellowed out a bit they would have lasted much longer.

I hated the rumble and usually turned it off on the PS2 controller. If people like the wireless capabilities of these, the rumble feature will surely drastically reduce battery life. The battery life on these is great. The entire time I have had them I have only had the console tell me once that I needed to charge one. I just make sure to plug them in whenever I am done playing and that seems to do the trick. I have had some long 8-10 hour gaming sessions with no battery problems. Since they don't come with a cable, I bought a cheap 16' cable when I got the PS3 thinking I would need it occasionally when the batteries were low but I have never had to use it. Now I regret getting such a long cable because it is a mess in my cabinet.

Also being able to switch controller numbers and turn the unit on and off using the controller is priceless. I agree with others that the slanted R2 and L2 buttons are difficult to maintain at times (if you have sweaty hand at all). I wish they just pushed straight in, the slant makes your fingers want to slide off.

I have big hands (6' 230 pounds with sausage fingers) and have no trouble with these being too small, in fact I don't like the Xbox controller which feels like a dinner plate to me but I am perfectly willing to chalk that up to just being used to the PS controllers over the years. I find many things regarding taste just depend on what you are used to using.

As far as connection, the blue tooth has worked flawlessly for me. I have never lost a connection and at times have carried them into the kitchen to get a snack (one room over)without losing the connection.

I am going to buy a new pair and let the old pair be the "kids" pair. I will try to be more gentle this time so Call of Duty doesn't kill the controllers. That particular game really does rely on almost continually mashing the L3 button and it is the game I have played probably 75% of the time since buying the PS3 so I am not too upset about them wearing out already.

Customer Review: Just what the doctor ordered (though I'm no doctor)

It's exactly what is advertised. If you have a PS3, and you're looking to upgrade to 6-axis. Here you go.

Customer Review: NOTE - New PS3 Dualshock 3 has both Rumble and Tilt
Summary: 4 Stars

While this is a fine controller, please note that the NEW PS3 Dualshock 3 has added rumble in addition to the Sixaxis tilt feature. Other reviews imply that the Dualshock has no rumble; these reviews are referring to the old Dualshock 2, which had rumble removed for legal reasons that have now been resolved. Thus, I suggest you take a look at the Dualshock 3 before buying this controller.

Customer Review: Not in perfect condition
Summary: 3 Stars

The controller I received was not in perfect condition. One of the right trigger buttons was permanently pushed in, thus making some games extremely difficult if not impossible to play. I remedied the problem, however, by taking it apart and readjusting the button. Works fine now.

Customer Review: RELIABLE, LIGHTWEIGHT, QUALITY MADE BUT MISSING VIBRATION FEATURE
Summary: 4 Stars

This controller is great. It is very lightweight but don't be fooled because they can take a beating and keep working. This controller is streamlined and slimmer that previous versions. It is rechargeable via USB cord that plugs into your PS3. It holds a charge for a very long time. I only have to charge it once every 3-4 days and you can even play while it's charging. It does come with a USB cord but it is fairly short. It also has tilt sensors built into it and many games are starting to use this feature more and more. I consider it a big improvement to the previous controller on PS2. In my opinion the only flaw is that the vibration function was not included in this controller
