So I finally bucked up and got a PS3 in October after the price drop and the release of the PS3 Slim. I haven't been much of a gamer for the last few years being newly married and now a first time Dad. I've downloaded a few demos and borrowed a few games from friends. They were fun for a few minutes. Metal Gear Solid 4 held my attention for a few months and I finished it in many short play sessions. But it didn't really stir anything in me for gaming. I'd heard that Uncharted and Uncharted 2 (to be reviewed at a future date) were some of the best games on the PS3.
Much to my pleasure Uncharted was a mere $9.98 during Black Friday Week this year (2009). I picked it up, along with Uncharted 2 for $39.99 a few days later, and am nearly finished with it. It is by far the best game I have ever played, until apparently Uncharted 2 will steal that label when I get to playing it. The graphics, even on a regular tube TV, are better than anything I have ever seen in any other game, period. The gameplay is fast and a ton of fun. A common complaint is the overabundance of gun fights with pirates. Apparently 3rd person shooters have done it for years so Uncharted is nothing new. But haven't not played any 3rd person shooters (apart from RE4 on the GC), it's a totally new experience for me. I'm literally giddy with excitement as a I play this game. Each new area I arrive in, from a treacherous hundred foot waterfall to a fortress built into a huge cliff to ancient ruins in the jungle, I constantly find myself saying "Wow!" out loud.
Even though it's price has gone back up to its normal Amazon price, I highly recommend Uncharted to any fan of action/adventure games.

Gotta get this one if you wanna get into the sequel. It's a good game overall, but number 2 is just amazing!
