Video Game Reviews of Playstation 3 fragFX ControllerCustomer Review: good, but not great Summary: 3 StarsThe concept is a great one. Myself, a PC gamer since time was time. I love it and have no want to replace it. That being said, I love my ps3. It's a fantastic machine with so many features I'm still learning of them. THAT being said, I cant stand playing FPS games on it. It's terrible. I cant stand it. I know some people have no problems and whatnot but it's just not for me. I'm way too geared with my mouse to be able to lose so much on a controller.
The FragFX controller does what it says it does. However, like much of the other reviews, the mouse is not very sensitive. Anyone who plays PC games will notice this immediately. There is some tweaking to be had between the game and the dial on the controller, but it's limited and if you make it too sensitive, it essentially goes crazy in your hands and you end up aiming at the floor or ceiling more often then you'd like. If you don't mind keeping it a little less sensitive then there's better accuracy involved. It's hard for me because I like to turn around with nary a flick of the mouse, but it can be done.
As far as quality is concerned, I'm not impressed. The whole ensemble is light as a feather and therefore fragile to boot. I feel as though if I dropped it I would break it almost immediately. The mouse clickers aren't really clickers. They're more like pushing R2 on your controller. This requires you to push harder than normal resulting in getting fragged more often. The shape buttons on the side also require a heavy amount of force to get the job done. The nun-chuck isn't as important as far as weight is concerned due to it's in the hand nature, but it still is pretty light. The mousepad is useless. It is only functional on your lap, or if you're close to the side of your table because the cradle for the nun-chuck sits farther than the pad does so you would have a lop sided pad if it were sitting in the middle of the table. I don't like using my lap due to the loss of motion in my wrist.
I've used this item with games like heavenly sword during the obnoxious crossbow parts. In that game, this product was a godsend. I tried this guy with rainbow six vegas 2 and had to send the game back. There's no way I could play a tactical shooter at such a low sensitivity. I died three times in the beginning of the prologue.
End of story, this product can be very useful if you're used to console gaming or if you don't mind a steep learning curve as a PC gamer. In some games it will save your [...]. In others it will want you to throw the thing against the wall. I'm glad I got it, but not REALLY glad.
Customer Review: It's the best!!! Summary: 5 StarsIt realy good for percesion attacks on alot of games that have frist person shooting games. It's easy to update. It needs more touch respawns to control better but good in the long run.
Customer Review: Failed after some weeks Summary: 5 StarsNevermind, after i wrote that, i go to the official webpage to this product, i download the lastest firmware, and it's fix my problem :-) ... now, is a great controller again :-) ... I am happy again playing COD4 ...
------------------------
Well, before I bought this Controller, I read at least all reviews, with 5 stars to 1 star ... I notify that people reports that the buttons turn into a stuck state ... well, I bought anyway, hoping that i will get some lucky about it ... In the begin to use, Some buttons were hard to push, after use, they were more softlly to push, but now, last week, when i play COD4 and I push de fire button (Left click -R1 in a SixAxis-) the triangle button seem to be pushed too, and the triangle button is use to switch weapon ... in the middle of a battle, that's so deadly -btw, i didnt push the traingle button, it's pushed by itself- ... well, I'm pissing off right now and some kind of frustrated. When the controller worked fine, was a great controller, but now I just get some kind of hate about it.
Customer Review: FragFX (WEAKNESS) Summary: 3 Stars I have had the FragFX controller for about 3months now. It works awesome if you're after instant precise aiming. After the first month the support for the left grip broke off. So now holding the left grip is painful on the hand after multiple hours of use. After about 2.5 months the left anaolog plastic is cracked inside the controller, causing it to constantly move slowly right. Quite often now it automatically presses L2 when pressing the left analog in and moving. It constantly turns itself off, making it a major hassle in a first person shooter game (cod4). And now after 3 months of owning it with the new firmware installed, the mouse stops working altogether when it feels like it, and the firmware has to be re-installed to get the function back. But now my controller is pretty much unusable and I lost my ability to play cod4 with my regular analog controller. These are just the problems that occur after usage, not the minor ones it starts with.
Controller design problems: The left grip is too small, if the support is broken and you have to actually hold it instead of place your hand atop it, it will cause numbness in my left ring finger that can last up to a day. The sensitivity wheel is in a bad spot, it is constantly getting moved by the finger that is wrapped around the small controller. The D-pad is in a bad spot and angled a bit off. It should be higher than the left analog for easier access, and on the same axis as the analog stick which it is not. The frag button is pretty much useless, I never use it. The wired version has tension on the mouse which is majorly undesired when playing a FPS game. If the wire wasn't there it would be much more efficient. There is a plastic raised portion in between the 4 ps (square, triangle, etc) buttons on the mouse controller. It should be raised out another quarter inch to keep from accidentally hitting any of those 4 buttons when gripping the mouse.
Other than these major problems with the FragFX controller it's great. If they would make it stronger and WAY more durable along with better firmware, it would be unstoppable. It's the best first person shooter control I've experienced. I just hope when the wireless version comes out they make it A LOT better.
But I can say the splitfish company is good, since they are replacing my FragFX controller for free. I don't even have to return my broken one, although I'd rather, because what better play testing is there than 3 brutally constant months.
Customer Review: Doesn't work Summary: 2 StarsThis is waste. Doesn't even work with any other game but COD4 and Hardware is very cheap made.
